Hello! I am Karrie Knowles. I help Homeschooling and Unschooling parents raise Intrinsically Motivated human beings. In September I opened Dream School and have become a private traveling teacher instructing 23 students in person and online in just six short months.
I live in the small farm town of Preston, Connecticut in New England, USA. I have been blessed to raise three boys who are now 19, 20, and 27! Their amazing, intelligent talented young men now. I have homeschooled them all at one point or another and the youngest two for the last ten years. What I actually did was create my own half Homeschool half Unschool Curriculum and taught them through hands on activities, art, traveling and cultural experiences, and standard core curriculum.
I have been a Professional Photographer for twelve years. I discovered my love and passion for art through my photographer and went back to school to finish my degrees a few years ago. I have studied Fine Art, English, Children’s Literature, Mindfulness and Creativity in Educational Psychology, and Business at Three Rivers and The University of Connecticut here in Connecticut. I am also TESOL Certified, Art Therapy Certified, and First Aid and CPR Certified for both Adult and Pediatric Care.
Although I have had a great time learning and studying these fields I realized that the question I get asked most in my life is about children, parenting, learning disabilities, and children’s nutrition. As I came to the completion of my degrees I learned my true calling and passion in life is to teach children and help parents. My children and I all have various degrees of ADHD and Dyslexia so I have specialized knowledge in this field. I really believe that these “learning disabilities” are not “disabilities” at all but rather talented gifts. I have personally aided my children to overcome such labeling through diet, art, and mindful parenting.
To confirm this passionate path, while I decided to continue on with my Teaching Certification, I was hired to start Private Homeschooling children for other families and it wasn’t long before I fell in love with teaching these children. We have had a grand time with Reading, Writing, Math, Arts, Crafts, Color Theory and Design, Science Experiments, Nature and Field Guides, and Music and Movement.
It is my desire to reach and help more children and families.
Feel free to Contact me and reach out about current programs. I look forward to hearing from you!
